I wasn’t exactly the epitome of infancy when I was brought into this world in Western Romania in the heady days after the fall of Communism.
I didn’t scream nor did I cry – as most newborns do when leaving the comfort of the womb. To the horror of my mother and the dismay of the doctors, I left the impression that, without much stamina or interest, I had just switched sceneries…
By the time I turned 13, I was already feeling ancient and wary, with all my interests revolving around various forms of art: poetry, fine arts, theatre and cinema. I don’t regret at all my inward-looking days – they laid the foundation for everything I’m pursuing in life today.
The key experience for me is learning how to grow young. It’s a challenge that I take to heart and I knew since early on that art is for me the path to achieving this.
My work is mainly focused on portraiture because I think people’s faces and the marks that time and life have left behind are the kinds of details that my eyes can pick up (and also what makes us beautiful).
I’ve also recently started writing again, so from time to time I´ll let out those words that express my inner life, without guilt, without shame, without regret.
Thank you for stopping by all you art and poetry aficionados. And do stick around. I promise to make it worth it.
